What You Need to Apply in BC.
Here's everything lenders typically ask for when applying through our BC car loan service. Full overview of when you apply for a car loan in British Columbia. Don't worry if you don't have everything — apply first, and your advisor will guide you.
Required for everyone.
✅ Government-Issued Photo ID
Valid BC driver's licence (front and back) is the standard. A Canadian passport or BC Services Card with photo also works. You must be 18 years or older.
✅ Proof of Income
Lenders need to verify your ability to make payments. Accepted documents include: most recent pay stub (within 30 days), employment letter on company letterhead, most recent T4 or Notice of Assessment, or 3 months of bank statements showing regular income deposits.
✅ Proof of BC Residence
A recent utility bill (BC Hydro, FortisBC, Telus), bank statement, or lease/rental agreement showing your current BC address. Must be dated within the last 90 days.
✅ Phone Number & Email
Your advisor contacts you by phone (typically within 24 hours). A working cell number and email address are required for the application process.

Self-Employed
Business registration, 2 years of T1 Generals or Notices of Assessment, and 3–6 months of business bank statements. See our self-employed guide.

New to Canada
Valid work permit or PR card, Canadian employment letter, and proof of BC residence. International driver's licence may be accepted initially while you obtain your BC licence. See our newcomer guide.

Benefit statements or proof of government income (CPP, disability, EI). Some lenders accept non-traditional income sources. See our EI & disability guide.
Trade-In Vehicle
If you're trading in a current vehicle: registration, lien payout statement (if financed), and service records. Your advisor can help assess trade-in value. See our trade-in page.
