Bad credit isn't a sentence. It's a situation.
A low credit score in BC isn't the barrier it used to be. Two decades ago, a 550 score meant buying a car was effectively impossible without a co-signer. Today, a full tier of non-prime lenders exists specifically for drivers with bruised credit — and that tier has been growing every year.
The math is straightforward: roughly one in three Canadian adults has a credit score below 660, and lenders who only approve the other two-thirds leave a very large market segment on the table. BC's non-prime lenders cover that gap. They underwrite differently, price for risk transparently, fund files other banks reject, and expect most borrowers to gradually rebuild their credit while carrying the loan.
Easy Ride Canada's 20+ lender network includes at least six dedicated non-prime specialists. Your file goes to all of them at once, and the one who wins your file is typically the one whose underwriting best fits your specific credit history, income type, and vehicle preference. Scores as low as 300 get approved every day through this network.
Your score is just part of the story.

Five paths into bad credit — and out.
The credit profile doesn't come from nowhere. Most BC drivers with bad credit fell into it through one of these five paths — and every one has a specialist lender in our network.
Post-bankruptcy rebuild
Discharged or ongoing. Our bankruptcy car loan guide covers the specific timeline and documentation. Approvals happen 6 months into discharge, often earlier.
Active consumer proposal
A proposal in good standing is not a disqualifier. See our consumer proposal loan guide for approval requirements. Typically needs trustee confirmation of current standing.
Collections & missed payments
Unpaid accounts in collections don't automatically decline you. Our collections car loan page explains which types are underwriting blockers and which aren't.
Previous repossession
One prior repossession is approvable. See car loans after repossession for the specific rebuild path and typical waiting periods.
Thin file / no credit
New to Canada, never used credit, or under 25 with no history? See no credit car loans — a thin file is different from bad credit and gets different lender treatment.

Bad credit car loan questions.
What credit score do I need to get approved?
Our lenders approve scores as low as 300. The minimum varies by lender, but we match you to those who specialize in your specific range. Income stability matters more than the number itself.
Will checking my rate hurt my credit?
No. Easy Ride uses a soft credit check that never appears on your report and has zero impact on your score. A hard pull only happens after you accept an offer and move forward.
Can I get approved with bankruptcy or collections?
Yes. We work with lenders who specialize in post-bankruptcy and post-proposal financing. Active collections don’t automatically disqualify you — income and employment matter more.
What interest rate will I get with bad credit?
Rates for rebuilding credit typically range from 19.99% to 29.99%. Your exact rate depends on income, down payment, vehicle, and specific credit factors. We show you options before you commit.
Do I need a down payment?
Not always. Many of our approvals are $0 down. However, a down payment of $500–$1,000 can significantly improve your rate and open up more vehicle choices.
How fast does bad credit improve after I start the loan?
On-time car loan payments typically show up on your credit report within 30–60 days. Most borrowers see a 20–40 point score lift within the first six months of consistent payments, with further gains as the account ages. The loan itself becomes a positive tradeline that offsets negative history on your file.
What income level do I need to qualify?
Minimum gross monthly income of roughly $1,800–$2,200 is typical for non-prime BC approvals, though the specific threshold varies by lender and situation. Self-employed income counts with 1–2 years of Notice of Assessments. Disability, pension, ODSP, and EI income are accepted by several lenders in the network. See minimum income for a car loan for the detailed breakdown.
Will the vehicle selection be limited?
Somewhat. Non-prime lenders cap vehicle age (usually 8–10 years old or newer) and mileage (typically under 160,000 km) to manage their risk on collateral value. Inside those limits, selection is wide — sedans, SUVs, trucks, minivans, domestic and imports. Luxury brands and exotic vehicles are generally unavailable with bad credit; everyday reliable vehicles are widely available.
Can I apply if I'm self-employed or on variable income?
Yes. Self-employed applicants provide 2 years of Notice of Assessments from CRA as income verification. Gig-workers, tradespeople, seasonal agriculture workers, and tip-based service workers all qualify — the key is documenting 12–24 months of income history. See our gig-worker car loan guide for the specific requirements.
