How much car can I afford with bad credit in BC?

The answer depends on three things: your monthly income, your credit profile, and how much (if any) down payment you have. As a rough guide:

  • Income $1,500–$2,500/mo: Payments of $200–$280/mo are typically achievable
  • Income $2,500–$3,500/mo: Payments of $280–$380/mo are typically achievable
  • Income $3,500+/mo: Payments of $380–$500+/mo are typically achievable

These are estimates. With a down payment, you can often get lower payments at any income level. And with the right lender, bad credit doesn’t disqualify you — it just changes which lenders we target.

Do I need a down payment to get approved in BC?

No. A down payment is never required to apply or get pre-approved. That said, a down payment of $1,000–$3,000 can meaningfully lower your monthly payment and make it easier for lenders to approve higher-value vehicles. It’s an option, not a requirement.

What income qualifies for a car loan in BC?

More than you’d expect. We have lenders who accept all of the following: full-time and part-time employment, self-employment and contract income, EI (employment insurance), ODSP and CPP-D disability income, government benefits, pension income, and parental leave. If you have consistent monthly income of any kind, we likely have a lender for you.

What credit score do I need?

There’s no minimum credit score at Easy Ride Canada. We work with lenders who approve scores below 500 — even 0. What matters more is your income and current situation. If you’re in an active consumer proposal or bankruptcy, we have specific lenders for exactly that.

Can I afford a car in BC on low income?

Yes, and this is one of our specialties. See our low-income car buyer guide for a full breakdown of which vehicles are realistic, which lenders accept benefit income, and how to structure your application for the best chance of approval.
