Moving Provinces With a Car Loan
01
Your Car Loan Stays With You
When you move provinces, your car loan doesn't change. The loan was made between you and your lender — moving doesn't affect the terms, rate, or monthly payment.
You continue making the same payments to the same lender regardless of where you live in Canada.

You Need to Re-Register Your Vehicle
When you establish residency in a new province, you typically have 30–90 days (varies by province) to re-register your vehicle in the new province. Insurance Changes When You Move
Car insurance is provincial in Canada. Moving to BC means getting ICBC coverage (compulsory for BC residents).Your existing insurance from another province is typically valid for 30–90 days after arrival, but you need to update before that window closes.
04
Notify Your Lender of Your Address Change
You must notify your lender when you change your address. Most loan agreements require this.Failure to do so can cause missed correspondence or technical default issues.
