Used Car Inspection Checklist BC

01

Exterior inspection.

Run your hand along each panel feeling for filler or ripples under the paint.
02

Interior checks.

Inspect tires for even wear (uneven wear indicates alignment or suspension issues) and remaining tread depth (minimum 3mm for BC winter driving).
03

Mechanical assessment.

Test every button, switch, and control — windows, mirrors, locks, climate control, heated seats, infotainment system. Check the odometer reading against the vehicle history report.Look for water stains on headliner and carpet that indicate flood damage.
04

Documentation review.

Mechanical inspection: Start the engine cold — listen for unusual sounds during startup. Check the transmission: smooth shifting through all gears with no clunks, grinding, or hesitation.Test brakes at various speeds — they should be smooth, quiet, and straight.
05

Professional inspection.

Have an independent mechanic perform a pre-purchase inspection ($100–$200) — this is the single best investment you can make when buying used.. Documentation: Request the vehicle history report (Carfax or equivalent)..Check for liens registered against the vehicle through ICBC or a PPSA search..
